A Tribute to Leadership: Honouring Peter Hoban, Retiring Chair of the Loreto College Marryatville Board
With deep gratitude and admiration we recently celebrated the retirement of Peter Hoban as Chair of the Loreto College Marryatville Board. For over ten years, Peter has exemplified the very essence of servant leadership, guiding the school with wisdom, integrity, and a profound commitment to the Loreto mission.
On the evening of Wednesday, 4th December, board members, colleagues, friends and family gathered for a special dinner, hosted by Kylie McCullah, principal, Loreto College Marryatville, to honour Peter’s extraordinary contributions. The evening was filled with warmth, gratitude, and reflection as we recounted the milestones achieved during Peter’s tenure. He has left an indelible mark on the Loreto community.
Those paying tribute to Peter included Margaret Kennedy, Chair Loreto Ministries with Stewards Sr Anne Kelly IBVM and Rachel Grimes. The night held an extra surprise: two special guests, Sr Margaret Mary Flynn IBVM, former Province Leader, and Peter Garling, first Chair of Loreto Ministries Board, whose unexpected presence delighted Peter. Both had worked closely with him during key moments of their tenure, and their presence added much to the evening.
The celebration continued the following morning with Mass at Loreto College Marryatville where we gathered to give thanks for Peter’s service and the end of the school year. It was a moving occasion, underscoring the spiritual foundation of our mission and reminding us of the importance of faith-filled leadership. During Mass, we were reminded of the profound wisdom of Mother Gonzaga Barry: “Leave after you something on which others may build.” These words encapsulate Peter’s enduring legacy – a legacy that will undoubtedly serve as a strong foundation for future growth and success at Loreto College Marryatville.
As CEO of Loreto Ministries, I have been privileged to witness firsthand the impact of Peter’s stewardship. His ability to balance strategic foresight with compassion and humility has strengthened the Loreto College Marryatville community and set a benchmark for governance across the entire Loreto network.
As we bid farewell to Peter in his role as Chair, we are filled with gratitude for his unwavering commitment to the values of Mary Ward. While his presence in this capacity will be greatly missed, the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire and guide us for years to come.
On behalf of the entire Loreto Ministries community, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Peter and wish him every blessing in the next chapter of his journey.
