Honouring Sr Mary Wright: Loreto Ministries Announces Scholarship Programme

On Saturday 26 July 2025, during the annual Loreto Ministries Steward Members, Principals and Board Chairs Conference, Margaret Kennedy, Chair of Loreto Ministries, launched the inaugural Mary Wright Scholarship Programme – a new initiative designed to strengthen governance and leadership across the Loreto network.

Sr Mary Wright ibvm was a gifted leader, teacher, and canon lawyer whose legacy of humility, wisdom, and transformative leadership continues to inspire. Deeply committed to recognising and nurturing the leadership of others, Sr Mary championed courageous, mission-led service at every level of the Church and Loreto community.

To honour her extraordinary contribution, Loreto Ministries is proud to establish two annual scholarships in her name, commencing in 2026. These scholarships are designed to invest in those serving in leadership roles within Loreto schools, and Loreto Board Members who are shaping the future of Loreto education with courage, vision and service:

  • Sr Mary Wright Leadership Scholarship – supporting the professional growth and leadership development of those currently serving in leadership positions within Loreto schools.

  • Sr Mary Wright Canon Law Immersion – providing an opportunity for Loreto Board Members and Directors of Mission to deepen their expertise in Canon Law and Catholic governance.

Applications are now open and will close on Thursday 19 September 2025. Scholarship recipients will be announced later in the year, with study programs commencing in 2026.
